Spider's Trap by Jennifer Estep (Review)

Spider's Trap by Jennifer Estep is part of the ‘Elemental Assassin’ series and continues the saga of Genevieve (Gin) Blanco, who somehow has trouble being a ‘retired’ assassin. Her default position as head of the Ashland underworld has complicated her life even more—not only does she have to survive repeated attempts on her life, but she is expected to mediate between the warring factions of the underworld. When matters explode and those she loves risk being caught and killed in the shrapnel, Gin must find a way to defeat an enemy with roots in their shared past, but with the handicap that her beloved weaponry may be turned against her. This time, she will have to think outside of the box and use all of the resources at her disposal to survive, but will she be able to do so and keep all of those she loves safe as well?

This wonderful urban fantasy continues to mesmerize and entertain with its wonderfully capable kickass heroine and her fascinating coterie of friends and allies. The author’s inventive expansion of the powers available to newly encountered villains provides new and exciting situations that Gin must adapt to, and makes the story unpredictable and refreshing. Although there are several heartstopping and potentially devastating occurrences, the action continues to escalate throughout the book, even while there are interludes that are wonderfully sensual and life-affirming in the midst of so much death and mayhem.

There are several surprising twists in this tale, with a particularly explosive reveal at the end, and I was reminded why I fell in love with this series even as my curiosity was piqued, making me very anxious to read about the next adventures in Gin’s exciting life. It might be possible to read this as a stand-alone title, but why deprive yourself of so much heart-racing entertainment? This is another great title that will appeal to those who like reading about a feisty, deadly, and admirable female who doesn’t give up, isn’t afraid to fight for what she believes in, and maintains her integrity despite severe provocation!

A copy of this title was provided to me for review

I had the pleasure of hosting the author for a spotlight of this title last month.  If you would like to learn more about her and this title, please go to this link

Have you read any of this author's titles?  If so, which is  your favorite series?  I haven't read her new young adult series, but I am anxious to do so!
